THE RODS EXPEDITION

THE RODS INFORMATION INDEX
Details about the Rods phenomenon and stills from the videos. Jose Escamilla Returns to the cave February 22 through the 24th to scout the location for a Japanese made TV Special (the first TV Special ever to be made on the Rods). Jose will be videotaping RODS at the cave to be included in his upcoming SKY FISH video and the Japanese TV Special. The CBS KFMB footage has not yet been released to Jose for scanning. There are over seven hours of footage to be reviewed by Jose and Jim in the next few weeks. All the footage was shot at 1/10,000 shutter settings on both High 8 digital and Beta SX high broadcast quality. I have returned from this latest journey and am pleased to say that Rods were captured at the cave again this time by the Japanese crew. However, after being there at the cave for the second time, and seeing the footage it's like, I know that this is not enough. The Japanese crew and director want to present Rods for the first time IN Japan and this is all okay, BUT they are not willing to get me the "high speed" cameras we need to once and for all determine what it is that Rods are or are not! As I have always maintained, I can show everyone Rods from single cams until we're all blue in the face, but what needs to be done is the high speed shootings of Rods. We've done stereo cam set ups, etc., but what needs to be done is the high speed shots of these things. I want to close the book on the critic's and skeptics beliefs that there is nothing there at all. I want to prove they are there! I hope we achieve this in the next six months or sooner. I want to close this first chapter on the Rods and take it to the next level. One high speed shot at 500 frames per second will show us detail and more information on them as never before. We may find they had eyes and teeth and have a definitive look at how they fly or swim through the air. Clips will be posted as soon as the Japanese TV Station will release them to me. Also; as far as the KFMB and KATU TV station footage is concerned, I have not yet been given the footage as promised and it looks like I will have to spend money to get the footage released to me with limited use. So this is the latest on all and it goes without saying that I am again spending money to present the evidence to you "the public." I am doing the best possible to release the information to you, but there will come a time where this is going to have to come to an end; and you must realize it's a choice of expense rather than luxury. After the past six years my budget has finally come to a point where I have to trim the expenses of this web site and the research. I am no longer selling the videos as this has not supported the site and the expense to keep this going and I cannot personally absorb the costs anymore. I hope that things change sooner than later for the sake of this research and web site. I hope we catch one or find a specimen soon. - Jose Escamilla - KFMB has done a segment on the cave expedition of last November and as most news shows go, you can bet that not all of the footage was scanned. They put in the segment the first shots they saw and did their story. There are probably more significant shots in that footage and we will scan the tapes as soon as we have them in our hands. The trip to the cave this next Tuesday will allow Jose to bring home his own footage (for the first time) and he will have a chance to shoot the footage as it should have been last November. At that time CBS affiliate KFMB called all the shots and how the tapings went down. This time around Jose has full control of the tapings and will release the clips on this web site as they are reviewed. The Japanese TV Special will be taped the second week of March. Jim Peters and other will join them during the making of the special at the cave.

MY FIRST TRIP TO THE CAVE!
CBS Affiliate KFMB Channel 8 in San Diego took me to the cave site on Thursday - November 18, 1999 to film for two days at the site! Below is a summary of my experience there at the cave. There are a different set of rules that apply to the site itself. Getting there in the first place was an experience in itself.

MY VISIT TO SOTANO DE LAS GOLONDRINAS
I nearly threw in the towel...literally almost shelved my Rod hat! I was totally blown away with the experience I just had this weekend at Sotano De Las Golondrinas; where there are hundreds of RODS flying around in the cave. First of all the KODAK camera system was not available for this trip. I was not prepared myself as the camera I took with me stopped working. So CBS has all the footage at this time, copies of which I will be getting after they aie the segment on February 3, 2000. Secondly, the experience I had this past weekend is that RODS are too FAST. There is no way anyone in the world will ever catch one. I have been arrogant in thinking we can easily catch one. They are so fast...I mean...here I AM...THE ROD MAN...and I know I'm back at square one with the RODS phenomenon! I mean...there is just no way anyone can comprehend how fast they are; much less catch one or realize what they really are. I was there! I saw them, but it took a long time for me to realize I was seeing them! Even to me...they are almost invisible. I mean I was seeing them at the cave with the naked eye...yet "not" seeing them... Here I am; the Rod expert and I could barely see them myself and I'm trained at this...or so I thought! I have been seeing them in "slow motion" for the past three years. I was not prepared for the speed of these things at the cave. MAN...they are fast! The trip to the cave has me totally humbled and stumped! To make this as short as possible. I am totally convinced that it's going to be a major task to catch one. I was there and at the cave it's a different set of rules. I wish all of our critics and skeptics could go there and see them for themselves. There are insects there, swallows. parrots and RODS! For all our supporters of this research, wait until you see the fotage we just took. We shot on a high 8, a Beta SP Digital Broadcast camera and a 16mm motion picture camera. We rolled off three hundred feet of film and all cameras rolled at the same time. Rods were captured on all three cameras. Jose Escamilla - The ROD MAN
